PFAS-Free Period Underwear: What Brands Should Ask Their Manufacturer

Period and leak-proof underwear is one of the fastest-growing intimates categories. Because the product sits against sensitive skin and makes performance claims, safety and compliance matter more than in ordinary underwear. Here is what to confirm with any manufacturer.
Ask about PFAS-free materials
PFAS (“forever chemicals”) have historically been used for water resistance, and several markets now restrict them. Confirm that the absorbent and leak-proof layers are PFAS-free and, where required, backed by test reports.
Confirm the absorbency structure
Quality period underwear uses an engineered multi-layer gusset — a moisture-wicking top layer, an absorbent core and a leak-proof barrier. Ask how many layers, the tested absorbency level and how the factory validates it.
Check certifications
OEKO-TEX Standard 100 testing for harmful substances is a strong baseline for skin-contact products. For sustainability-focused brands, GRS-certified recycled fabrics may also be relevant.
Verify durability
Period underwear must survive dozens of wash cycles without losing absorbency or shape. Ask about wash-test data and fabric quality before committing to bulk.
